My entire life from the moment I can remember I wanted to grow up and be a dentist. Plans changed while I was in college due to some life events and a push to create a career in the art world. Before this change in careers I was injured during swim season in highschool and could no longer swim. I faced fear of being partially paralyzed if I continued with that journey. I suffered from depression at the time, but nothing was severe because I had this outlet. If anything went wrong, I would hop in the pool and start swimming to clear my head. Since the injury my mental health started to decline. Things got bad around 2019 when I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Since 2021 when my life flipped upside completely again I have changed degrees and chancing my dreams in the art world and advocating for all mental health.
This work is untitled, but they both tell a huge story about my life and how I’ve gotten to where I am today. The lizard with a spine for a tail represents me and my injury and you can see her chasing her dreams but in a different way, there is a path but it’s not clear on how to get where she needs to  be. In the second body of work it’s the lizard form of me again. But changing and evolving and with my surroundings and goals in life. And I exit the page as I’m entering a new beginning, a new chapter in life.
